Every year I make resolutions, just to end up not meeting them within a day or week sometimes if I am lucky a little longer. So this year, I am not making a resolution, I am setting yearly goals. That way, if you falter once, twice or even 20 times, you still have until the end of the year to meet that goal, so a few slip ups won't ruin your plan.
So here are a few common New Years Resolutions (NYR) and how you can convert them into Yearly Goals (YG) that you can meet.
*(NYR)I am going to quit smoking!
convert that to (YG) I will quit smoking by December 31st.
(this is a very hard resolution to fulfill, so make it a long journey and you are more likely to accomplish it)
*(NYR)I will stick to my diet
convert that to (YG) I will lose__ pounds by December 31st.
(this gives you time to make a plan, and if you splurge every now and then, you can still get to the same end result)
*(NYR)I will save $50 per week and put into a savings account
convert to (YG) I will save $____ by December 31st
(this way if you have a bad week or month, you can still save a considerable amount by the end of the year)
Those are just a few examples of how you can change your thinking and still accomplish all those things you want to do this year, and not feel like a failure if you waiver a little bit from time to time. I myself, think this is a much better way to ensure I make the best of 2016.
YG #1 - Ultimate Blogging Challenge (UBC) You will see many posts with the hashtag #UBC followed by a Day #, that is because one of my yearly goals is to grow my blog and concentrate on it more. So I am joining the Ultimate Blogging Challenge, where I will make at least one post per day for the entire month of January (if you are a blogger, you may want to participate here, and join the Facebook Group)
YG#2 - I want to build my Youtube Channel and create more videos. If you are not a subscriber, make sure to check me out. I do coupon hauls, freebie hauls, DIY videos and I have a #BlogWithMe series that will be starting in the next week or so. My Ultimate goal is to increase my subscribers to 5,000 by December 31st (I am at 2919 right now, so I am looking to almost double my subscribers) If I don't meet the 5,000 subscriber level, that is fine with me, I just have a goal to try to reach, if I only gain 5 subscribers, then I will feel like I did something!!!
YG#3 - One of the most important goals is my family. No specific goal, just to spend more time with them and to appreciate them each and everyday. I would like to see them in person at least 3 times throughout the year. That may be a challenge, but I am going to try :)
YG#4 - This is THE MOST IMPORTANT GOAL OF THE YEAR, For my husband to receive a new kidney. My husband is in stage 5 Kidney Disease, he will be going on dialysis within the next 2 weeks, and then we are headed to trying to find a donor so that he can have his transplant and live a longer more fulfilling life. If I don't meet any other goals, this is THE ONE, that I pray to meet.
So there you have it, my yearly goals. You notice I made more than one, I will feel great if I can meet just one of the 4 goals, if I meet all 4 that is wonderful, and I have every intention of giving it my all for the next 364 days!!!!!
So let me know in the comments what you think about setting goals as opposed to making New Years Resolutions. And if you will be setting goals, what are some of your goals you would like to meet?
Look for monthly Yearly Goal Update posts where I will share with you how my goals are going for the year, and I would love to hear how you are doing with yours.
Happy New Years to you & yours!
