I get asked, almost on a daily basis, "How do you get all these great products for free?" And here is my responses:
#1 Blogging does not equal free, it takes time to review the product, take quality photos, do research and create an original post. (Sounds like a job right? That's because it is) It takes time away from your family, just like an everyday job.
#2 It is not free, you do have to claim items received on your taxes as income in the form of products.
So are you still interested in starting a blog? Well then let's see if we can get you going!
First you need to think about the following things:
*Your goals for your blog (Hobby, Part-time or Career)
Are you planning on this as a hobby, something to do part-time, or do you want to make this your career? These are very important things to determine as you are considering starting up a blog.
*Your brand or niche
Now you have to determine what you want your blog to focus on (your brand or niche). Do you want to blog about your travels, gardening, cooking, books or product reviews. You really need to determine this before you start. You should make your blog about something you are passionate about if you want it to be successful. If you hate to cook, do not do a blog about cooking, etc.
*Your blog name.
You need to choose a name that represents you and your specific niche. It should be something that is easy to find and flows nicely on the lips. (You don't want a name that won't be easy to remember, and you want people to be able to find you.)
Blogspot (Blogger) - This is a very easy platform to use especially if you are not tech savvy. I started out on blogger myself.
Wordpress - This seems to be a very great platform from what I have heard, and it offers TONS of plug-ins to customize your blog.
Weebly - This is what I am currently using. Great for those that are not tech savvy, basically a cut & paste kind of platform.
***I would suggest starting out with one of the free options as you get your blog off the ground and build a following, then after time once you get your following you can then purchase your domain (although if your goal is to eventually purchase your domain, when choosing your name, I would do a search to make sure that the domain name is not registered to someone else)
Okay, that is it for this week. Do you have a topic or question you would like me to answer for next week? Make sure to leave it in the comments below.
