Meet Alexa and Sam
On Sam's second day of working for Lemleys' Catering (way back in 1989), Max told her that her main job duty was to keep his spirited daughter Alexa out of trouble. While we don't know how well that worked, we do know that they were inseparable until Sam left for college, often catering side by side.
After school, Sam moved to Baltimore, and Alexa moved to Louisville. The two kept in touch, even though Sam was too stubborn and silly to appreciate Alexa's love.
In 2000, Chef Alexa returned to Columbus, Indiana to help her dad, Max, run Lemleys' Catering. She convinced Sam to do the same in 2005. Once again, they were catering side by side. This time, they were living together, too. When Max retired from catering, he entrusted the operations of the family business to the two of them.
In 2007, Chef Alexa and Sam began making marshmallows to promote the catering business. That led to the creation of 240sweet. Along the way, Chef Alexa's foods were featured in Martha Stewart Weddings, O (the Oprah Magazine), Food & Wine Magazine, Serious Eats, Daily Candy, and all sorts of stuff. Chef Alexa and Sam were each awarded the title of "20 Under 40" by Columbus Young Professionals for their commitment to community and professionalism. Chef Alexa was voted "Best Chef" and "Best Food Artisan" from the readers of Edible Indy Magazine (two years in a row).
In 2014, there were lots of great changes in their lives. To carry on the legacy of Lemleys' Catering, the two created Artisan Foodworks in May. They were joined in marriage in June 2014. This new year of 2015 looks even brighter.
Recently, Chef Alexa's Popcorn and Lobster Soup received both "Most Creative" and "Best Gluten Free" in the 2015 Indy Soupfest. Later in 2015, Chef Alexa was awarded the Grand Champion in the Ultimate Mac and Cheese cookoff at the Indiana State Fair. She is the Queen of All the Dairy (she even has a cheese crown to prove it).
All of our marshmallows are hand-crafted by using natural ingredients to ensure the best taste for each flavor. Please enjoy the different densities and textures of each kind.
For fun, Chef Alexa and Sam love to go on road trips around the country, stopping at neat things they find. They also enjoy trying out new recipes at home. You can often find them walking their dogs and cat (The Little Kitty) on the People Trail around Columbus.
I am not a big hot chocolate drinker, and NEVER make it with milk. But I followed the directions, boiled me some milk, added the chocolate mix and topped with a Creme Brulee gourmet marshmellow. Let me tell you it was the BEST cup of Hot Chocolate I have ever had!!!!!
I dealt directly with the owners, and they are AWESOME!!!! I love companies that have such a personal touch.
So make sure to check it out, and support Alexa and Sam, and get some of the best gourmet marshmellows you will ever try!
